BE SEEN: Asian-Inspired Fashion Show

It typically takes me a couple of days to reflect on a moment in my life. Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on BE SEEN‘s Fashion Showcase before it becomes a fleeting memory.

I want to thank everyone who supported me in my first design. There was an overwhelming amount of support from the community, family, and friends. Thank you for always listening to me ramble on about fashion.

Heather-Thank you for giving a random stranger your wedding dress. I hope I did it justice!

An-Thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone. For your wisdom, patience, and straightforward honesty. Oh, and for always entertaining my curious questions.

Lynn-Thank you for your kind words and supportive spirit. You killed it on the runway!

Since it was my first fashion design, the process was exhilarating. Words cannot explain the sensation I felt when I saw my design come to life. My design is repurposed from a wedding dress. The design follows a one with nature theme, and I picked the color white to symbolize a clean slate for the fashion industry post-pandemic. I wanted to add 3-D printing to create the lotus and demonstrate what science and technology can do for this industry. The lotus uses a biodegradable filament, which allows for a faster decomposition rate. I hope we can use our creativity to innovate solutions that will eliminate waste from the fashion industry.

To the dark side of this industry: the pollution, overconsumption, and destruction of the earth. The minds of this generation will continue bridging the gap between science, technology, regenerative resources and protect the planetary boundaries. Cheers to the bannister effect.

I know it’s been awhile, but I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post! I’ll see you in two weeks for my next one: The Future of Leather.

With love,

Thy Phan
