Fashion Lessons in 24 Years

24. I’m not 21 anymore. I’m almost a quarter of a century. And I thought I would have my life together by now. How weird. In my 24 years of life here are the top three pieces of advice that I have gained from my naïve, dorky, and perfectionist lifestyle.

                                                                   Quality over Quantity.

Life: Remember in my Alchemy post when I said that my worst trait was greed. I have grown to see the predicament in this. Having a plethora of possessions does not mean you will be happy, instead, you lose the virtue of gratitude. And this will diminish your sense of joy because nothing is enough.
Fashion: Say goodbye to fast fashion. Try to invest in more timeless pieces. When you read about where your outfits are coming from you take an initiative to help our planet. Check out pieces from Uniqlo, Zara, and Eileen Fisher.

                                                             Acquire Knowledge from all

Life: “When you think that you know everything, you have become a fool.” Educate yourself. Become aware of what is going on in your community. Invest time in learning about your political views. Pick up traits from the people that you admire. I have a friend that always makes people feel welcomed. One that can help people even in her darkest moments. And another that can carry a vibrant air of charisma in a meeting. These traits that you acquire can push you to become the best version of yourself.
Fashion: Wear what inspires you. Trench coats and blazers make me feel powerful so on my longest days I am seen in one or the other. Designers can be inspired by anything and everything. Jeremy Scott’s collection is taken from animation and Ralph Lauren gets his creative knowledge from the places that he travels to.

                                                      Everything happens for a reason

Life: Friends, I will let you in on a secret. You cannot control life. That’s wild, right? Go ahead and let it sink in. If you are freaking out over this, no worries I was too. As a control freak who plans her daily schedule and her career move five years into the future I tend to have difficulty adjusting to a malfunction in the plan. Over the past year, I have found myself detouring from my linear path and becoming uncertain.

“So what are your plans?” I don’t know.

And that’s okay to not have answers because everything happens for a reason.
Fashion: No tips for fashion here, since everything happens for a reason. But here’s a fun fact. A lot of Chanel’s item was created by accident. Chanel No 5 was created by mistakenly mixing two scents.

At the age of 24 I would like to learn a couple of things:

1. Become more courageous so I can expand my perspectives.
2. Increase my empathy for human nature.
3. Overcome my insecurities and doubts so I can be more empowering.
4. Make sure my mind understands that there is more to this world than what my hands can touch.
5. Lastly, to become stronger so the people I love can rely on me.

Happy fall everyone! What an exciting season we have coming up. I have been obsessing with Saint Laurent’s Fall 2019 collection since the backlight promotion video dropped in the spring.
